Description

Description

DumaTau Camp lies on an exquisite site on the banks of the Linyanti River’s Osprey Lagoon. It is located close to the source of the Savute Channel in the western part of the Linyanti, between two elephant corridors, thus offering an exclusive combination of land and river experience.

The ten en-suite tented units (eight twin and two family) are raised off the ground to overlook the Lagoon. The architecture and interiors evoke the age of the explorers, and the window-wide netting provides a sense of space with dramatic views of the river. The main areas include a floating fire deck, with expansive dining and lounge areas all sporting the same vista.

Activities allow guests to view game during day and night game drives, on short nature walks (depending on qualified guide availability), and while boating along the serene waters of the Linyanti River (levels permitting).

DumaTau Camp operates completely on solar energy, for hot water, lighting and other energy needs, and is built of FSC-standard timber.

Room Types

DumaTau Camp – Standard Tents

There are eight twin bedded tents. The twin beds can be moved together to make a double bed.

DumaTau Camp – Family Tents

There are two family units which can accommodate four guests, each room with its own bathroom.

Activities

DumaTau Camp – Game Drives

Morning and afternoon game drives reveal the rich wildlife of the area where predators and elephant are often the highlight. Plains game and diverse birdlife also offer fantastic sightings. The open 4×4 Land Rovers each accommodate a maximum of seven people, allowing each guest a ‘window’ seat.

DumaTau Camp – Night Drives

Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. These often include lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and, if you are extremely lucky, the elusive pangolin!

DumaTau Camp – Nature Walks

Depending on qualified guide availability, nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when travelling by vehicle.

DumaTau Camp – Hides and Platforms

There are a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds. One of the best hides is right at the source of the Savute Channel, from which many species of game and birdlife can be seen.

DumaTau Camp – Seasonal Motorboat and River Barge

Water levels permitting, explore the Linyanti River by boat or barge, the latter perfect for picnics or sundowners or searching out those elusive birds so prevalent in the channels.

DumaTau Camp – Fishing

Seasonal fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels.

DumaTau Camp – Birding

Birding is outstanding here, from Okavango specials to mopane woodland species. The Savute Channel is famous for its high concentration of eagles and raptors; this area is internationally recognised as an IBA (Important Bird Area).
